Hearing in Citizenship related writ against Home Minister on January 6

The Supreme Court (SC) is scheduled to hear on January 6 on the writ petition relating to the dispute over Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s eligibility to become the member of House of Representatives.

In the petition, it was claimed that Lamichhane had seriously violated the constitution and the law as he had registered a party and was elected as a people’s representative while he did not retain his Nepali citizenship after obtaining the American citizenship.

Advocate Raviraj Basaula and others filed the petition on December 14, demanding the cancellation of Lamichhane’s position as a member of parliament (MP). The SC has called both sides in the discussion about the legitimacy of the citizenship of Lamichhane.

Lamichhane courted controversy after being embroiled in a dual citizenship case.

Lawyers will discuss the eligibility of Lamichance as a member of the HoR on January 6.

Chairperson of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party Lamichhane was elected as a member of the HoR from Chitwan constituency-2.
