Hearing on Koshi Province writ petition could not take place on Sunday

The hearing on the writ petition filed in the Supreme Court (SC) claiming that the election of the current Chief Minister in the Koshi Province is unconstitutional could not happen on Sunday.

Although the division bench of Justice Kumar Regmi and Justice Nahakul Subedi was scheduled to conduct a hearing on the petition filed by the CPN (UML), it was stalled after Justice Regmi refused to conduct the hearing, citing that he could not conduct the hearing.

It may be noted that former Chief Minister of Koshi Province, Hikmat Kumar Karki, on July 7 had filed a writ petition on the behalf of the CPN (UML) against the appointment of current Chief Minister Uddhav Thapa.

A single bench of Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla on July 12 issued an interim order to the Thapa-led government not to take serious decisions that have long-term effects.

Hearing on the petition will be held next day.
