Heat Wave Claims Lives in Banke: Two Fatalities Reported
The scorching heat wave sweeping through Banke and surrounding districts has tragically claimed two lives, prompting concerns among residents and authorities alike.
In Khajura Rural Municipality, the community mourns the loss of Topendra Sunar, a respected gold trader, who succumbed to heat exhaustion. According to reports, Sunar collapsed while riding his motorbike to work at Metro Jewelers in Khajura Bazaar. Despite efforts by locals and police to rush him to a nearby hospital, medical professionals declared him deceased upon arrival.
Meanwhile, in Nepalgunj, 104-year-old Kailash Giri, residing at the Nilsagar Ashram, also fell victim to the extreme temperatures. Ashram operator Sarita Khanal confirmed that despite immediate medical attention at Bheri Hospital, Giri could not be revived.
District Police Office Banke Chief Tul Bahadur Karki emphasized the severity of the heat wave gripping Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, and Kanchanpur districts in recent days. Locals have expressed widespread concern over the adverse impact on daily life, reporting a surge in health issues such as diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, skin ailments, allergies, and incidents of fainting.
As temperatures continue to soar, health authorities have issued advisories urging residents to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight during peak hours, and seek medical attention promptly if experiencing symptoms of heat-related illnesses.
