Home Minister to Address House on Gold Smuggling Issue

The long-standing obstruction of the House of Representatives by the main opposition party, CPN-UML, is set to end as they have agreed to allow the parliamentary meeting to proceed on Tuesday. The CPN-UML had been demanding the formation of a high-level investigation committee to probe the issue of gold smuggling, which resulted in the parliament’s non-functioning.

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha will take the floor during the House session to address the pressing issue of gold smuggling that has been a major concern for the nation. The government’s response to this issue has been a subject of intense scrutiny, and the Home Minister’s address is eagerly awaited by both the Members of Parliament and the public.

The political landscape witnessed a significant development on Tuesday afternoon when Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal engaged in discussions in Baluwatar with CPN-UML and Nepali Congress  representatives. Following the meeting, the CPN-UML chief whip, Mahesh Bartaula, announced the party’s decision to lift the obstruction and allow the parliamentary session to proceed as scheduled at 3 o’clock.

“The Home Minister will address the meeting. MPs keep their word. We will move forward after looking at the situation,” Bartaula affirmed.
