Home Minister Urges Nepal Police to Prioritize Citizen Safety and Security

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Rabi Lamichhane, has directed police personnel to ensure that every citizen feels safe and secure. Following his inspection of the Nepal Police Headquarters today, the Home Minister instructed them to prosecute individuals involved in any incident based on evidence rather than commands from elsewhere. He emphasized that investigations into any incident should yield results, and the law should be applied equally to all. During the visit, he also paid his respects at the Police Martyrs Memorial inside the Nepal Police Headquarters and toured a museum located there. He acknowledged the contributions of former and current police personnel to the development and reputation of the police institution.

Urging police employees to fulfill their responsibilities within the bounds of the law, he called upon the institution to ensure career advancement opportunities for its staff. He stressed the importance of leveraging technology and cultivating a skilled workforce to combat technology-assisted crimes. Additionally, he instructed the police administration to prioritize cases involving women, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities to ensure prompt justice for them.

Recognizing usury and mismanagement of cooperatives as significant challenges, the Home Minister urged the police administration to focus on combating economic crimes, fraud, cybercrime, and drug smuggling. Inspector General of Police, Basanta Kunwar, affirmed the Nepal Police’s commitment to implementing the Home Minister’s directives.
