HoR Unanimously Passes ‘Monitoring and Evaluation Bill-2080’

The House of Representatives unanimously passed the ‘Monitoring and Evaluation Bill-2080’, marking a significant step towards enhancing transparency and accountability in Nepal’s development process.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, presented the proposal on behalf of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, emphasizing the necessity of the bill to streamline monitoring and evaluation of development policies and projects.

The bill, which originated in the National Assembly and underwent thorough scrutiny by the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, aims to establish a systematic framework for monitoring and evaluating development plans and projects.

During the deliberations, Minister Sharma underscored the importance of the law in ensuring public accountability, emphasizing its role in making the development process result-oriented and transparent.

Key provisions of the bill include setting targets for regular and periodic monitoring and evaluation activities, as well as holding heads of public bodies accountable by specifying their responsibilities.

The passage of the ‘Monitoring and Evaluation Bill-2080’ signals a commitment by the government to prioritize effective governance and sustainable development practices.

The House of Representatives is scheduled to reconvene on March 4 to continue its legislative agenda.
