Humla Witnesses First Snowfall of the Year
Humla district experienced its first snowfall of the year last night, following weather changes since Sunday evening. The snowfall, which has blanketed the district in white, brought three inches of snow to the district headquarters, Simikot, while higher-altitude areas like Limi in north Namkha Rural Municipality are covered under a foot of snow.
According to Log Bohara, a health worker at Limi Health Post, the snowfall has delighted farmers despite its late arrival this year. Local residents believe that the snowfall will improve weather conditions and benefit the district’s agricultural activities.
The snowfall is expected to support the cultivation of key winter crops like wheat, barley, and rice. Farmers in the district are optimistic about a good harvest, even as the freezing temperatures and icy conditions have disrupted daily life.
Normal life has been severely affected in Simikot and nearby areas, including Chala, Limi, Hilsa, and Yari in north Namkha. The mercury has plunged below freezing, further intensifying challenges for the local population.
As Humla braces for more winter conditions, the first snowfall of the year brings both hope and hardship to the remote Himalayan district.
