In the fiscal year 2080/81 BS, Ilam district successfully completed 59 irrigation projects, investing a total of Rs 348.7 million. These projects, developed under the Small Irrigation Programme, are set to benefit more than 2,100 households across the district.
The new irrigation facilities have brought significant relief to farmers, enhancing their agricultural productivity. According to Chief of the Small Irrigation Programme, Keshav Lama, the distribution of completed projects includes ten in Suryodaya Municipality, nine in Ilam Municipality, eight in Mangsebung Rural Municipality, and seven in Mai Municipality.
Asman Yonghang from Gajurmukhi village in Mangsebung Rural Municipality expressed satisfaction with the new irrigation infrastructure. “Our reliance on rainwater is now over thanks to the Pakrumba canal, which was built with an investment of approximately four million rupees,” he said.
In Lapsibote village of Maijogmai Rural Municipality, an irrigation project costing Rs 5 million has directly benefited 58 households, further demonstrating the positive impact of these developments.
The successful completion of these projects was made possible through a collaborative effort involving the federal government, provincial government, local authorities, and the Swiss Government. The enhanced irrigation facilities are expected to bolster agricultural output and improve the livelihoods of local farmers.
