India and Nepal Enhance Audit Cooperation with New MoU

Girish Chandra Murmu, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), currently on an official visit to Nepal, has inked a significant memorandum of understanding (MoU) with his Nepalese counterpart, Auditor General Toyama Raya. The agreement, aimed at bolstering cooperation in the realm of public sector audit, was formalized on Thursday, marking a pivotal moment in the bilateral relations between the two nations.

The freshly minted MoU is poised to usher in substantial advancements in capacity building and methodological enhancements within the ambit of public sector auditing. This collaborative endeavor signifies a substantial stride in the professional and institutional development between Nepal and India, two neighboring nations with shared interests and aspirations.

During his visit, Murmu seized the opportunity to engage with Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, providing insights into the ongoing collaboration between the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of India and Nepal. He underscored the significance of the newly forged MoU in reinforcing the ties between the audit bodies of the two countries.

In a similar vein, Murmu held discussions with Barsaman Pun, the Finance Minister of Nepal, reaffirming the pivotal role of this symbiotic partnership in fortifying the multifaceted relationship between India and Nepal.

This agreement underscores the unwavering commitment of both nations to promote transparency and bolster public sector accountability through concerted cooperation and the exchange of knowledge.

In a separate engagement, Comptroller and Auditor General of India, Girish Chandra Murmu, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ today at Singh Durbar. During the meeting, various aspects of Nepal-India audit cooperation, including capacity building and experience exchange, were deliberated upon, as disclosed by PM’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Dr. Rupak Sapkota.

Prime Minister Dahal expressed his optimism regarding the recent cooperation and experience exchange agreement between the Auditor General’s offices of Nepal and India, envisioning its positive impact on the public audit sector of both nations.

Auditor General of India, Murmu, conveyed his appreciation for gaining insights into Nepal’s audit system and expressed confidence in the continuation of cooperation, facilitating mutual learning and skill enhancement among auditors from both countries.

The meeting was attended by Auditor General of Nepal Toyam Raya, Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Dr. Sapkota, and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reflecting the collective commitment towards fostering robust bilateral ties.
