India Lays Foundation Stone for High Impact Community Development Project in Darchula, Nepal
A significant milestone in the development partnership between India and Nepal was marked today as the foundation stone for the construction of the Shree Galainath Secondary School Building in Shailyashikhar Municipality, Darchula District, Nepal, was laid. The ceremony presided over by Bijay Singh Dhami, Mayor of Shailyashikhar Municipality, and Prashant Kumar Sona, Second Secretary at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, showcased the commitment of both nations towards the advancement of education and community development.
The project, valued at NRs. 27.30 million, is being undertaken with financial assistance from the Government of India under the ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’ framework. Political representatives, government officials, social workers, members of the school management, teachers, parents, and students graced the occasion, symbolizing the collective effort towards fostering progress and prosperity in the region.
The Shree Galainath Secondary School Building, a double-storied structure, will feature modern amenities including toilet blocks, office facilities, and furniture, providing an enhanced learning environment for students. This initiative, designated as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP), exemplifies the strong development partnership between India and Nepal.

He highlighted the significance of the new school building in augmenting educational facilities and fostering holistic development in the region.
The construction of the Shree Galainath Secondary School Building reflects India’s broader commitment to supporting Nepal’s development goals. Since 2003, India has implemented over 551 HICDPs across Nepal, with 489 projects successfully completed. In Sudurpashchim Province alone, 40 projects have been executed, including 10 in Darchula District.
Furthermore, as a gesture of goodwill, India has gifted 1009 ambulances and 300 school buses to various institutions in Nepal, including 60 ambulances and 20 school buses in Sudurpashchim Province, with 8 ambulances and 2 school buses allocated to Darchula District.
The implementation of HICDPs underscores the depth of India-Nepal cooperation, particularly in priority sectors like education.
