India to Host 81st IATA AGM in 2025, Signifying Nation’s Rising Aviation Stature

India is set to welcome the global aviation community as it hosts the prestigious annual general meeting (AGM) of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in 2025, marking a significant milestone after 42 years. With the event scheduled to take place in Delhi from June 8-10, 2025, under the stewardship of IndiGo, India’s leading airline, anticipation is high for constructive discussions on key aviation industry issues.

The decision to hold the 81st IATA AGM in India underscores the country’s burgeoning aviation market and its potential to become the world’s third-largest within the decade. Willie Walsh, Director General of IATA, expressed enthusiasm for the event, citing India’s remarkable growth trajectory and burgeoning infrastructure developments.

IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers echoed this sentiment, highlighting India’s pivotal role in the global aviation landscape and the nation’s strides in AI technology. The event is expected to attract top executives from over 330 airlines, representing more than 80% of global air traffic, along with stakeholders from aircraft manufacturers and various sectors of the aviation industry.

Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia hailed the event as a proud moment for Indian aviation, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in fostering sectoral growth, enhancing regional connectivity, and securing historic aircraft orders. The AGM presents an opportunity for national and international stakeholders to explore India’s vibrant aviation market and foster collaboration for sustainable growth.

With India making substantial aircraft orders in recent years, including record-breaking deals by Air India Group, IndiGo, and the new entrant Akasa Air, the country is poised to meet the burgeoning demand for air travel. Edward Delahaye of Airbus emphasized India’s potential to become a global aviation hub, driven by factors like domestic traffic growth, GDP expansion, and strategic positioning as a connecting hub.
