India to Observe One-Day State Mourning for Late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi

The Union Home Ministry has announced that India will observe a one-day state mourning on Tuesday as a mark of respect for Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who tragically died in a helicopter crash. The national flag will be flown at half-mast on all buildings where it is regularly flown, and there will be no official entertainment during the period of mourning.

President Raisi, along with Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and several other officials, was found dead on Monday after their helicopter crashed in a foggy, mountainous region in the country’s northwest, according to Iran state media.

“As a mark of respect to the departed dignitaries, the government of India has decided that there will be one day’s state mourning on May 21 (Tuesday) throughout India,” a home ministry spokesperson stated.

The spokesperson further clarified that on the day of mourning, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across all buildings where it is regularly flown, and there will be no official entertainment on the day.

This gesture reflects the deep respect and condolences from the people of India towards the late Iranian president and his accompanying officials.
