India’s EAM Jaishankar Meets Chinese Counterpart Wang Yi on SCO Sidelines in Astana

External Affairs Minister of India Dr. S. Jaishankar met Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Thursday during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Heads of State summit. The two leaders shared a warm handshake and engaged in a brief conversation before posing for a photo.

Amidst the ongoing military standoff since May 2020 along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), both countries have recently discussed ways to achieve complete disengagement. Jaishankar leads the Indian delegation in Kazakhstan for the 24th SCO Summit, where regional and global issues will be reviewed.

Upon arrival, Jaishankar was welcomed by Kazakhstan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Alibek Bakaye. He also visited Pushkin Park, paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s statue. Jaishankar expressed gratitude to Kazakhstan’s Deputy PM for the summit arrangements and discussed expanding the Strategic Partnership and India’s engagement with Central Asia.

During the summit, leaders are expected to review the SCO’s activities and discuss multilateral cooperation prospects.
