Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri Meets Nepal’s Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, Strengthens Bilateral Ties
Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri paid a courtesy visit to Nepal’s Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak today at the Home Ministry in Singha Durbar. The meeting, described as cordial and constructive, focused on issues of bilateral interest and concern, as confirmed by the Home Minister’s Secretariat.
During the discussion, Home Minister Lekhak emphasized the strong and friendly relations between Nepal and India, expressing confidence that these ties would continue to grow and strengthen under Foreign Secretary Misri’s tenure. He acknowledged India’s significant role in Nepal’s development, particularly in sectors such as security, infrastructure, energy, and water resources. The Minister thanked India for its ongoing contributions to enhancing the capabilities of Nepal’s security forces and for its role in infrastructure development across the country.
In a reaffirmation of Nepal’s commitment to regional stability, Minister Lekhak assured that Nepal would not allow its territory to be used for activities against neighboring countries. “Nepal’s territory will not be allowed to be used for any activities against its neighbors,” he stated, underscoring the importance of safeguarding mutual interests.
The Home Minister also guaranteed the full security of Indian investments in Nepal, stressing the necessity for enhanced cooperation between the two nations to combat cross-border crimes, including drug smuggling. He highlighted the need for greater collaboration and coordination in maintaining security along the shared border.
Foreign Secretary Misri, in response, reiterated India’s commitment to supporting Nepal in strengthening its security and immigration systems. He spoke of India’s willingness to assist in the effective management of borders and in tackling trans-border crimes, ensuring the safety and security of citizens on both sides.
Concluding the meeting, Foreign Secretary Misri conveyed his best wishes for Minister Lekhak’s tenure and expressed optimism that the already strong diplomatic relations between Nepal and India would continue to flourish in the future.
Foreign Secretary Misri is on a two-day official visit to Nepal, having arrived on Sunday, August 11, at the invitation of Nepal’s Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal.
