India’s PM Modi Announces Rs 10,000 Crore Support for Bhutan
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared a monumental Rs 10,000 crore support package for Bhutan over the next five years. This announcement came during PM Modi’s state visit to Bhutan, commencing on the 22nd of March and extending until the 23rd.
Addressing a gathering at the majestic Tashichho Dzong Palace in Bhutan, PM Modi emphasized the enduring partnership between the two nations. “To fulfil your goals, India stands with you for BB – Brand Bhutan and Bhutan Believe. I assure you that the upcoming five years will give a new energy to our relations. We will work to create avenues in the connectivity, infrastructure, trade, and energy sectors,” stated PM Modi.
Highlighting the commitment to bolstering Bhutan’s development, PM Modi further declared, “I want to announce that in the upcoming five years, the government of India will provide Rs 10,000 crore support to Bhutan.”
The visit was not only marked by substantial pledges of support but also by heartfelt recognition. PM Modi was bestowed with Bhutan’s highest civilian honor, the ‘Order of the Druk Gyalpo’, in a ceremony that underscored the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations. Expressing gratitude for the esteemed accolade, PM Modi remarked, “Today is a big day in my life as an Indian. You have honoured me with Bhutan’s highest national award. This honour is not my personal achievement, it is the honour of India and 140 crore Indians.”
Additionally, the visit witnessed the exchange of several agreements aimed at further fortifying the bilateral partnership between India and Bhutan. These agreements, exchanged in the presence of PM Modi and Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay in Thimphu, underscored the shared commitment to mutual progress and prosperity.
