International Day of Yoga Celebrated with Various Programs in Nepal
Nepal is observing the International Day of Yoga today with a series of events and programs across the country. The day, marked annually since June 21, 2015, following a 2014 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) decision, emphasizes the global significance of yoga.
The primary event, organized by a committee formed by the government and chaired by the Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Sumana Shrestha, took place at SOS Children’s Village in Bhaktapur this morning.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ addressed the gathering, highlighting Nepal’s potential as a prime destination for researchers and academics worldwide interested in yoga. He emphasized that yoga extends beyond physical exercise, advocating it as a scientific lifestyle and system that, when followed, strengthens individuals physically, mentally, and spiritually, promoting overall health.
Minister for Education Sumana Shrestha also spoke at the event, underscoring the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life for maintaining good health.
Additionally, Secretary at the Ministry of Education Dipak Kafle read a message from President Ramchandra Paudel, reinforcing the significance of the day and the practice of yoga.
