Internet Services in Nepal Face Disruption Over Unpaid Bills
Major internet service providers in Nepal, including Worldlink, Subisu, and Vianet, have been experiencing significant disruptions since Thursday afternoon. The disruptions stem from unpaid bills totaling approximately 3 billion rupees to Airtel, the Indian bandwidth provider.
Worldlink CEO Keshav Nepal explained that Airtel has limited the bandwidth due to the accumulated unpaid bills for the last year. He highlighted financial constraints imposed by government restrictions as the main hurdle in settling the dues.
Sudhir Parajuli, President of the Internet Service Provider Association of Nepal (ISPAN), echoed these concerns. He mentioned that ISPAN had previously warned about potential service disruptions due to these financial issues.
The ongoing disruption threatens to escalate into a complete internet blackout across the country if the payment issues are not promptly resolved. Efforts are underway to address the situation and restore full internet connectivity to affected customers.
