Janardan Sharma Stresses the Need for Economic Diplomacy in Nepal
CPN Maoist Center Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma, recently expressed concerns about Nepal’s ability to attract foreign investment. He emphasized the importance of making structural reforms to make it easier for foreign investors to choose Nepal as their investment destination.
Speaking at an event in Kathmandu, Sharma highlighted that Nepal has great potential for investment, but this potential hasn’t been fully utilized yet. He pointed out that there’s a shortage of investment in Nepal from an economic perspective.
Sharma suggested that one of the reasons for this is the lack of economic diplomacy efforts by the government. He believed that the government’s existing structure isn’t fully aligned with the requirements for attracting foreign investment.
Sharma also noted that countries like India, China, and the United States are investing in Nepal, but this investment is primarily due to these countries’ diplomatic efforts rather than Nepal’s own initiatives. He stressed the need for Nepal to work harder to draw foreign investment.
Furthermore, Sharma highlighted that bringing in foreign investment is a challenge for Nepal, particularly when its economic diplomacy efforts are not robust. He mentioned that when one country invests in Nepal, others may view it with suspicion.
