Karnali Chief Minister Yamlal Kandel Seeks Vote of Confidence from Provincial Assembly
The Chief Minister of Karnali Province, Yamlal Kandel, is set to seek a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly today. This move comes in accordance with Article 188 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal.
The necessity for a vote of confidence arose after the CPN (Maoist Centre) withdrew its support from the Kandel-led government on July 22, pushing it into a minority. However, the political dynamics shifted when the Nepali Congress joined the provincial government on Sunday, restoring the government’s full shape.
The Karnali Province Assembly comprises 40 members: the Nepali Congress holds 14 seats, the CPN (Maoist Centre) has 13 seats, the CPN (UML) has 10 seats, and the CPN (Unified Socialist) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) each hold one seat. Additionally, there is one independent member.
The outcome of today’s vote will determine whether Chief Minister Kandel retains his position and the stability of the current provincial government.
