Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has reported an impressive 95.5% literacy rate among its population of 862,400. However, infrastructure development and the physical progress of projects during Fiscal Year 2080/81 (2023-24) stood at 53%, according to Sumitra Lamichhane, Chief of KMC’s Plan Monitoring and Evaluation Unit.
Out of the Rs 24.19 billion budget allocated for these projects, KMC spent Rs 12.34 billion. An additional Rs 1.57 billion was spent on projects implemented by local, provincial, and federal offices in Kathmandu during the same fiscal year. Despite the progress, KMC faces challenges in fully utilizing its budget for development initiatives.
