KMC Receives Prestigious Swiss Tourism Award-2023
In a remarkable achievement for the city, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has been selected as the recipient of the esteemed Swiss Tourism Award-2023. The announcement was made by a committee comprising renowned scientists working in the tourism sector. The prestigious accolade recognizes excellence in various aspects of the tourism industry and will be presented during a grand ceremony held in Lugano City, Switzerland, from November 3 to 5 later this year.
Nabin Manandhar, the spokesperson for KMC, expressed delight at the city’s selection for the esteemed award. He stated, “We are honored to receive the Swiss Tourism Award-2023. This recognition is a testament to Kathmandu’s rich cultural, religious, archaeological, and historical heritage, as well as its vibrant urban atmosphere. We are committed to preserving and promoting these treasures, and this award will further inspire us in our endeavors.”
The KMC will be represented by Mayor Balendra Shah at the award ceremony, as per a letter received from the organizers. The letter extended an invitation to Mayor Shah, emphasizing that the event aims to showcase the unique aspects of the region and promote its exceptional tourism destinations.
The Swiss Tourism Award has been recognizing outstanding contributions in the tourism industry for the past 15 years. Local authorities at various levels are eligible to apply for the award, and a selected number of applicants are nominated for consideration. The primary objective of this prestigious accolade is to promote cultural and natural heritage as captivating tourism destinations and enhance the competitiveness of tourism services.
Additionally, the award aims to foster the growth of tourism and facilitate communication and marketing of tourism destinations to potential tourists. The ceremony will also serve as a platform to promote the awarded destinations, including Kathmandu, in international markets, particularly Switzerland and Italy.
