Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki Secures Vote of Confidence
Chief Minister of Koshi Province, Hikmat Kumar Karki, has successfully secured a vote of confidence from the Provincial Assembly. During today’s session, 66 members voted in favor, while 15 members opposed the resolution. Out of the 93 members of the Assembly, 83 were present, with two members remaining neutral and the rest absent, according to Speaker Ambar Bahadur Bista.
This is the second time Karki has sought a vote of confidence, following the withdrawal of support from the CPN (Maoist Centre) on August 30, after changes in the political landscape at the federal level. The withdrawal came as a result of the CPN (Maoist Centre) shifting alliances at the federal government level.
In response to the reshuffling, the Nepali Congress has now joined the CPN (UML)-led government in Koshi Province. The composition of the Provincial Assembly includes 40 members from the CPN (UML), 29 from Nepali Congress, 13 from the CPN (Maoist Centre), six from Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), four from the CPN (Unified Socialist), and one from Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP).
Karki was first appointed Chief Minister on May 9 and took his initial vote of confidence just days later on May 13.
