Krishna Man Pradhan Recommended for EC; No Consensus on Other Appointments

The Constitutional Council has recommended the appointment of Krishna Man Pradhan as a member of the Election Commission to fill a vacant position.

The decision was made during a meeting held at Singha Darbar, chaired by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.

Krishna Man Pradhan has had a long tenure at the Nepal Law Society.

Deputy Speaker Indira Rana clarified that there were no recommendations made for appointments to other constitutional bodies.

However, consensus was not reached due to concerns raised about the qualifications of the proposed members.

The Constitutional Council, chaired by the Prime Minister, includes the Chief Justice, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Deputy Speaker, Speaker of the National Assembly, and the leader of the main opposition party.

The Council Secretariat has proposed appointments for one member each to the Election Commission, Natural Resources and Finance Commission, Inclusion Commission, and Muslim Commission.

Pending approval by Parliament, if the Constitutional Council’s recommendations are endorsed, the President will appoint the respective constitutional officials.
