Lightning Strike Injures 10 in Kailali District

A lightning strike in Uttarmuda, Bardagoriya Rural Municipality, Kailali district, injured 10 people on Sunday. The victims, all of whom sustained injuries during the incident, were identified as Phariya Devi Chaudhary, Rita Devi Chaudhary, Maya Chaudhary, Kamalapati Chaudhary, Kiran Chaudhary, Urmila Dagaura, Parbati Chaudhary, Phul Kumari Chaudhary, and Nirmala Devi Tharu, all from Uttarmuda.

Additionally, Mamata Tharu of Dhusara in Ghodaghodi Rural Municipality-2 was also injured in the lightning strike, according to the District Police Office, Kailali.

Police Inspector Lokendra Singh Karki reported that the victims, who belong to the Tharu community, were struck by lightning while preparing a meal during the 13th ritual day of mourning for a local resident, Bhim Bahadur Chaudhary.

All the injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at Bardagoriya Hospital in Bauniya, as confirmed by the police. The incident has highlighted the vulnerability of rural communities in the region to natural disasters like lightning strikes.
