Lumbini Development Trust and Lumbini Sanskritik Municipality Collaborate to Protect and Promote Lumbini Heritage

The Lumbini Development Trust held an interaction programme with the Lumbini Sanskritik Municipality on Sunday to discuss the protection, promotion, and exploration of Lumbini heritage. The event emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to develop, protect, and promote the archaeological, religious, and cultural significance of the birthplace of Lord Buddha.

During the programme, both sides highlighted the importance of partnerships between the Trust and the Municipality. Dhundiraj Bhattarai, Treasurer of the Trust, emphasized that the development and protection of the Lumbini area require the support of the local government, residents, and all stakeholders. He stated that the Trust’s efforts alone are not sufficient to achieve the desired outcomes.

“Lumbini should be developed as a must-visit site for Buddhist followers and peace lovers worldwide,” Bhattarai said. He urged stakeholders and local government representatives to support the development of Lumbini as a ‘peace site.’

Deputy Mayor of Lumbini Sanskritik Municipality, Kalpana Harijan, underscored the significance of Lumbini as an invaluable treasure of Nepal. She called for the creation of a conducive environment for better collaboration between the Trust and the Municipality to enhance the site’s heritage and attract more visitors.

The interaction programme marked a crucial step towards fostering cooperation between the Lumbini Development Trust and the Lumbini Sanskritik Municipality, aiming to preserve and promote the rich cultural and historical heritage of Lumbini for future generations.
