Madhes Development Crucial for National Growth: Prime Minister

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” has stated his commitment to continue working for the development of Madhes, emphasizing that the country cannot progress without the development of this region.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Kathal-Malhania Suspension Bridge, which connects Malhania in Siraha Municipality-13 to Kathal of Janakandini Rural Municipality-6, he reiterated his dedication to supporting Madhes’ development.

Assuring that the government will enhance support for the Terai by expanding irrigation and boosting productivity, the Prime Minister emphasized his focus on the effective implementation of federalism.

He stated, “Federalism will now be fully implemented. The Provincial Police Act, Education Act, and Staff Act will be implemented within a few days.”

Prime Minister Prachanda expressed confidence that such infrastructure projects will reinforce federalism through collaboration among the three levels of government.

Highlighting the strategic significance of Suspension Bridges in Nepal’s geography, Prime Minister Prachanda emphasized the government’s prioritization of constructing Suspension Bridges across the country.

He noted that the completion of the bridge has brought relief to the people of Dhanusha and Siraha, expressing optimism that it will also stimulate tourism in the two districts.

Additionally, the Prime Minister pledged support for the construction of other bridges to establish an embankment on the Kamala River.

This bridge, the longest in Nepal, spans 1,544 meters. The bridge was built at a cost of around Rs. 288.5 million with a load bearing capacity of 540 metric tons. Meanwhile, the local administration has requested all the users not to drive the heavy loaded vehicle including tempo at high speed and drag bicycles and motorcycles to cross the river.
