Madhu Marasini Reinstated as Secretary of the Finance Ministry

Madhu Marasini has been reinstated as the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, following his acquittal in a corruption case related to the National Payment Gateway. The decision was made by the Council of Ministers during their meeting on Monday.

Marasini’s career had been in jeopardy after he was suspended due to allegations of corruption. However, he was cleared of all charges by a special court, leading to his reinstatement. The case saw Marasini and eight others being charged by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), but only one of the defendants, Sunil Paudel, was convicted.

This decision marks Marasini’s return to a significant role in the financial governance of the nation, amidst a landscape of ongoing scrutiny and regulatory challenges within government operations.
