Meteorological Division Forecasts Three Days of Rain, Warns of Flood Risks

The Meteorological Forecasting Division, under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, has predicted rainfall across various parts of Nepal for three days starting Thursday. In a special bulletin released today, the Division cautioned that heavy rain is expected in certain regions, urging the public to stay vigilant.

According to meteorologist Shanti Kandel, the current influence of the monsoon wind is affecting the entire country, with the monsoon trough currently positioned south of its average location. The trough, currently around Madhya Pradesh in India, is expected to intensify and shift northward, leading to increased monsoon activity, particularly in western Nepal.

Rainfall is anticipated from Thursday evening to Saturday morning, predominantly in Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, where skies will be generally overcast. Other provinces will experience partly to generally cloudy conditions.

The Division’s forecast suggests light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, in many parts of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, with a few areas in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim expected to see heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next three days. Some regions in Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim may also experience heavy rainfall tonight.

Given the potential for floods and inundation due to the expected rainfall, the Division has advised the public to remain alert and prepared for possible consequences.
