Minister Basnet calls for everyone’s cooperation to effectively implement GESI
Minister for Health and Population Mohan Bahadur Basnet called for everyone’s cooperation for effective implementation of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Strategy of the Health Sector-2080 BS.
In an interaction organized in the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) today, Minister Basnet underscored the effective implementation of the GESI benefitting the public directly.
On the occasion of the ongoing 16-Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence, Basnet viewed that everyone be empowered economically as, he argued, that being economically backward had caused gender-based discrimination.
On a different note, he emphasized amendment of the National Medical Education Act, stating that until it was amended, it would not be possible to produce doctors and nurses.
The Minister admitted that there was a compelling situation in his Ministry to deliver within the limited resources due to budget constraint.
Similarly, Dev Kumari Guragain, Secretary at the MoHP, shared that her Ministry was consistently working towards defending and promoting human rights and ensuring everyone’s access to healthcare services.
She informed that the GESI was enforced as per the federal structure of the country to achieve country’s development objectives and health sector goals by prioritizing health rights of women, children, teenage girls, people with disability, sexual and gender minorities and senior citizens.
Similarly, Dr Roshan Pokharel, Secretary at the MoHP, underlined multi-sectoral collaboration and cooperation for the implementation of Strategy.
Pressing for effective implementation of the GESI, he observed that the problems in the health sectors would be addressed through collective efforts of the provincial and local government.
