Minister Deepak Khadka Discusses Energy Sector Support with World Bank’s David Sislen
Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Deepak Khadka met with World Bank’s Country Director for Nepal, David Sislen, today to discuss support for Nepal’s energy and irrigation sectors.
During the meeting at the Energy Minister’s office, Minister Khadka emphasized the government’s commitment to collaborating with the private sector and donor agencies to advance the energy sector. He highlighted the necessity of the World Bank’s support in constructing the transmission lines required to export power to the international market.
Minister Khadka reiterated the government’s ambitious goal of producing 28,000 MW of electricity within the next 10 years, stressing that achieving this target would require substantial support from the World Bank. He also expressed optimism about the timely completion of the Upper Arun Hydropower Project, which is being constructed with the World Bank’s assistance.
World Bank’s Country Director Sislen assured continued support and cooperation for the development of Nepal’s energy and irrigation sectors. He mentioned that efforts are underway to expedite the completion of the Upper Arun Hydropower Project and confirmed that the World Bank would prioritize energy and irrigation projects in Nepal.
