Minister Sharma Urges Private Sector to Develop IT Sector Plans and Projects for Investment Summit
Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, has called upon the private sector to proactively prepare plans and projects in the IT sector for the upcoming Investment Summit. She made the appeal during a meeting with representatives from the Confederation of Nepalese Industries’ IT Council, the American Chambers of Commerce in Nepal, and the Nepal Association for Software and IT Services Companies.
Emphasizing the importance of showcasing investment plans and programs in the IT sector at the Investment Summit, Minister Sharma urged entrepreneurs to come forward with innovative projects and plans in this field. She highlighted the necessity of establishing a Project Bank dedicated to the IT sector and sought suggestions from the private sector on enhancing government policies, programs, and budget allocations for IT initiatives.
Minister Sharma acknowledged the government’s strategic focus on digital transformation through the implementation of the Digital Nepal Framework. However, she noted that a lack of consensus and common vision towards the IT sector has hindered investment opportunities. Stressing the importance of aligning government and private sector objectives in the IT domain, she underscored the urgency of identifying investors and human resources to expedite digital transformation efforts.
Furthermore, Minister Sharma informed that legislation on IT and cybersecurity is currently in the pipeline. Representatives from the private sector echoed the need for creating a conducive environment to attract significant investments in the IT sector. They emphasized the vast potential of Nepal’s IT industry and called for the formulation of necessary laws and infrastructure development to support its growth.
Additionally, the representatives urged for harmonizing government agencies’ approaches towards IT and startup enterprises. They pledged their full cooperation to the government in fostering the country’s IT sector and achieving digital prosperity.
