Monsoon Winds Bring Cloudy Weather and Rain Across Nepal, Authorities Warn of Flood and Landslide Risks
Monsoon winds are currently affecting the entire country, with the low-pressure system of the monsoon remaining near its average position in the west and slightly above average in the south and east. According to a weather bulletin issued today by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the weather is expected to be partly to generally cloudy nationwide, with light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in some areas of Koshi and Lumbini provinces.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division reports that the afternoon will continue to see partly to generally cloudy skies across Nepal. Light to moderate rain, with the possibility of thunder and lightning, is likely in several areas of all seven provinces. Notably, heavy rainfall is expected in one or two places in the hilly regions of Koshi province.
Tonight, the hilly regions, including Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, will remain partly to generally cloudy. Light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, is anticipated in a few places in Koshi, Bagmati, and Karnali provinces, with isolated showers in the remaining provinces.
The Department has issued a warning to the public to stay vigilant against potential risks of floods, landslides, and soil erosion, particularly in the hilly regions of Koshi Province where heavy rainfall is forecast. Authorities have been urged to take necessary precautions as the weather conditions may partially impact daily life, agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, and both road and air transportation in the affected areas.
