Lawmakers in the National Assembly (NA) have defended the recent ordinances issued by the government, emphasizing their necessity in addressing pressing national concerns.
During a special hour of the Upper House session, MP Rukmini Koirala stated that the government introduced six ordinances to resolve land-related issues and foster a conducive investment environment. She noted that outdated laws, some dating back to 2015 BS, have hindered development and must be revised to meet contemporary needs.
Koirala also stressed the urgency of reimbursing cooperative savings misused through financial mismanagement, urging the formulation of a cooperative-related act. She highlighted the need to update key legal frameworks, including the Foreign Exchange (Regulation) Act, the Black-Marketing and Social Offences Act, the Company Act, and the Special Economic Zone Act.
Justice Demanded for Rinku Kumari Sada
Meanwhile, lawmaker Radheshyam Paswan called for swift action against those responsible for the alleged gang rape of 17-year-old Rinku Kumari Sada in Bhagawatipuri, Siraha. He criticized the government’s inaction despite repeated appeals in parliament, stressing that 15 days had passed since the incident without any arrests.
Sada was reportedly gang-raped on February 9 and found hanged on February 12. It has been alleged that local authorities attempted to resolve the case informally before it was brought to public attention.
Call for Equal Access to Quality Education
Speaking during Zero Hour, MP Indira Devi Gautam urged the government to ensure equal access to quality education for children across all communities. She highlighted financial burdens faced by parents in private schools, including costly admissions, excessive tuition fees, and expenses for multiple uniforms. She called for reforms to guarantee every child’s right to quality education, both in public and community schools.
Other Concerns Raised
MP Sharda Devi Bhatta suggested establishing help desks in foreign countries to assist Nepali students facing difficulties abroad.
Jag Prasad Sharma called for better management of Singha Durbar Vaidyakhana, while Taraman Swar demanded stronger border security to protect residents in frontier areas.
Lawmakers Tulsa Kumari Dahal, Maya Prasad Sharma, Radheshyam Paswan, and Sumitra BC also raised concerns on various contemporary issues, urging the government to take necessary actions.
