NASA astronaut Donald Pettit has shared breathtaking images of Prayagraj illuminated for the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, as seen from the International Space Station (ISS). Pettit, 69, currently aboard the ISS as part of the Expedition 72 crew, posted the images on social media on Sunday.
The photographs showcase a brilliantly lit city standing out against the surrounding darkness, capturing the scale of the world’s largest religious gathering.
“2025 Maha Kumbh Mela Ganges River pilgrimage from the ISS at night. The largest human gathering in the world is well lit,” Pettit wrote, highlighting the spectacle visible from space.
