NC Lawmaker Arjun Narsingh KC Advocates for Elected and Constitutional Prime Minister Provisions
Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Arjun Narsingh KC has proposed the introduction of provisions for both an elected Prime Minister and a Constitutional Prime Minister in Nepal. Speaking during a special hour in the House of Representatives (HoR) today, KC argued that such provisions would foster political stability and are particularly suited to the country’s political landscape.
According to KC, these provisions would relieve political parties from the necessity of forming and maintaining governments through alliances, which often leads to instability. He emphasized that this approach would also mitigate the need for frequent changes in government at the provincial level.
KC highlighted that while the Constitution is a living document and amendable, any amendments should be made through broad consensus without compromising its inclusive nature. He also called on the government to reconsider the five-year time limit proposed in the Bill to amend the Prevention of Corruption Act-2059 BS (2002) for investigating corruption cases. KC urged the government to prove its commitment to good governance by removing this provision.
Expressing concerns over the growing “anarchy” in the country, KC stressed that the State’s primary responsibility is to address the concerns of the youth, especially those growing up in the digital age.
