NC Leaders Push for Reconsideration of Party’s Stance on Vedic Sanatan Hindu Religion
During the Nepali Congress (NC) Central Committee Meeting held on Friday, a group of influential party leaders presented a special supplementary proposal urging for a reconsideration of the party’s position on the Vedic Sanatan Hindu religion.
Twenty-two prominent leaders, comprising central members and provincial presidents, jointly endorsed the proposal, which emphasizes the importance of aligning with the concept of a Hindu state while ensuring religious freedom.
Led by central member Shankar Bhandari, the proposal advocates for timely alignment with the sentiments of the majority populace, with a focus on the Vedic Sanatan Hindu religion. The leaders formally submitted a letter bearing the signatures of all 22 supporters to NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
The signatories include several central members such as Chandra Bhandari, Dilendra Prasad Badu, Pushpa Bhusal, and others, highlighting a broad consensus within the party on the issue.
The proposal acknowledges that while the NC prides itself on being an inclusive democratic party, it has unintentionally disregarded the religious sentiments of the majority population by advocating for secularism.
“Given that 94% of the Nepali population adheres to the Vedic Sanatan Hindu religion, including Buddhism, Kirat, and other faiths, it’s imperative for the NC to realign its stance with the aspirations of the people,” emphasized the leaders.
Notably, the endorsement of the proposal by provincial presidents, including Indra Bahadur Baniya and Shukra Raj Sharma of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces respectively, underscores a unified push within the party for embracing the principles of the Hindu state.
The proposal marks a significant development within the Nepali Congress, indicating a potential shift in its approach towards religion and state affairs, and sparking discussions about the party’s ideological direction in the coming days.
