NC President Deuba stresses on women’s awareness against discrimination
Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba stressed women’s elevated level of awareness against discrimination and violence meted out to women.
Extending best wishes to all Nepali women at home and abroad on the occasion of the 113th International Women’s Day today, NC President Deuba said Nepal was still not freed from the incidents of discrimination and violence against women in the context when Nepal was marking the international day.
“Women in cities and far-flung villages are still passing through an exploited and oppressed life. Today’s need is women’s awareness against discrimination and violence meted out to them”, reads Deuba’s message.
Violence was the greatest threat to democracy and people’s sovereignty, President Deuba said, adding it was also the stumbling block of the country’s economic development and a cause of weak social unity and goodwill.
Nepali Congress wishes to end all types of violence in society, he said, expressing the confidence that the Day would inspire all the citizens to remain aware and alert to end all types of violence against women.
NC President Deuba also expressed high respect to several women who were at the forefront of every movement for the establishment and reinstatement of democracy in Nepal.
