NC Takes Lead in Ilam By-Election After Three Wards Counted

The Nepali Congress candidate Dambar Bahadur Khadka is currently leading in the by-election for the Member of the House of Representatives in Ilam constituency no. 2, after the vote count was completed in Phakphokthum Rural Municipality-1, 2 and 3. Khadka has garnered a total of 1,658 votes.

His closest rival, CPN (UML) candidate Suhang Nembang, trails slightly with 1,630 votes. Independent candidate Dakendra Singh Limbu has secured 430 votes, while Rastriya Swatantra Party’s Milan Limbu has obtained 308 votes.

The by-election, held on Saturday, saw a voter turnout of 59.79 percent, with 69,287 votes cast from 115,889 registered voters. Nineteen candidates, including twelve affiliated with political parties and seven independents, contested in the by-election.

The final results are awaited as more votes are being counted.
