Nepal-A Clinches Victory Against Ireland Wolves
In a nail-biting conclusion to the three-match T20 series, Nepal-A emerged victorious against Ireland Wolves by a slender margin of 3 runs in the final encounter held at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Monday.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Nepal-A set an imposing target of 214 runs, largely fueled by an exceptional unbeaten knock of 93 runs from Aarif Sheikh. Despite early setbacks, Sheikh’s innings steered the hosts to a formidable total.
However, the Irish challenge proved to be resilient, with their batsmen putting up a valiant fight. Openers James McCollum and Ross Adair provided a solid foundation, but timely breakthroughs by Bipin Khatri hindered their progress. Despite notable contributions from Morgan Topping and Gareth Delany, the Wolves fell agonizingly short of the target, managing 210 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
Bipin Khatri emerged as the star performer for Nepal-A, claiming three crucial wickets, while Kamal Airee, Rashid Khan, and Basir Ahamed chipped in with a wicket each.
The victory comes as a redemption for Nepal-A, who had suffered a defeat in the second T20, thereby conceding the series 2-0 to Ireland Wolves. Nevertheless, the thrilling finale showcased the resilience and determination of the Nepali side.
With the T20 series concluded, attention now shifts to the upcoming three ODIs between Ireland Wolves and Nepal-A, promising further exhilarating cricketing action.
Meanwhile, the senior men’s cricket team of Nepal is gearing up for the ACC Men’s T20 Premier Cup and T20 World Cup, currently on a preparatory tour in India. Their participation in the SMS Friendship Cup against state teams of Gujarat and Baroda underscores their commitment to sharpening their skills ahead of the prestigious tournaments.
