Nepal Celebrates 159th Birth Anniversary of National Luminary Yubakavi Motiram Bhatta

The 159th birth anniversary of Yubakavi (Youth Poet) Motiram Bhatta, a revered figure in Nepali literature, is being celebrated today with various literary events across the country. Born on this day in 1923 BS (1866 AD) on Kushe Aunsi, which coincides with National Father’s Day, Bhatta is remembered for his immense contributions to Nepali literature, despite his short life of just 30 years.

Motiram Bhatta is widely celebrated for immortalizing Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya by documenting and publishing his biography, thereby preserving the legacy of the first poet of Nepal. He is also credited with introducing the printing press to Nepal, which played a crucial role in the development of Nepali literature and journalism.

Bhatta’s introduction of Ghazals into Nepali literature marked a significant cultural contribution, and he is remembered for publishing Bhanubhakta’s Ramayana in 1941 BS, further enriching Nepali literary heritage. His notable works, including “Bhanubhaktako Jeewan Charitra,” “Priyadarshika,” and “Pikdut,” continue to be celebrated for their literary excellence.

To honor his legacy, various organizations, including the Nepal Education Council, are organizing special programs and events. Among these, the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) will formally launch its 24-hour Nepali news service today, marking a significant step in the country’s media landscape. The service, which has been operating on a trial basis since August 27, will be officially inaugurated by Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung.

Bhatta’s contributions to Nepali language and literature remain a cornerstone of the nation’s cultural history, and his legacy continues to inspire new generations of writers and poets.
