Nepal Cuts Trade Deficit; Imports Down 3%, Exports Fall 4%

Nepal’s foreign trade has registered a decline in the first nine months of the current fiscal year 2080/081, according to the latest report from the Central Bureau of Statistics. The total trade for the period amounted to Rs 1.281 trillion, a 3 percent decrease from Rs 1.319 trillion recorded during the same period last year.

The figures released show imports totalling Rs 1.167 trillion, while exports stood at Rs 113.94 billion. This resulted in a trade deficit of Rs 1.053 trillion, marking a reduction of Rs 105.42 billion compared to last year’s deficit of Rs 1.215 trillion in imports against Rs 118.27 billion in exports.

This reduction in both imports and exports led to a 2.75 percent decrease in the trade deficit compared to the previous fiscal year. The Central Bureau of Statistics continues to monitor these trends closely, providing updates on the country’s economic interactions with global markets.
