Nepal Faces Tanzania in T20 Series Opener
In the inaugural match of the four-nation T20 series, Tanzania took to the crease against Nepal at the Hong Kong Cricket Club ground, having won the toss and opted to bat. In the preceding match, Tanzania notched 69 runs, losing three wickets in 14 overs. Nepal’s Sangeeta Rai claimed two wickets, while Ruveena Chhetri secured one.
This encounter marks the first clash between Nepal and Tanzania, with the latter ranked 19th and Nepal holding the 21st position in the ICC rankings. The ongoing series also features Hong Kong and Japan.
The Nepalese team, captained by Indu Burma, includes Bindu Rawal, Ruveena Chhetri, Sita Ranamgar, Asmina Karmacharya, Kajol Shrestha, Kanchan Shrestha, Khushi Dangol, Sangeeta Rai, Soni Pakhrin, Somu Bishta, Pooja Mahato, Roma Thapa, and Yadhan Khadka. Indu Burma has been appointed as the new captain by the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN), succeeding Rubina Chhetri, who led the team for 11 years.
Nepal is scheduled to face Hong Kong on November 30th in the second match and Japan on November 2nd in the final group stage encounter. The top two teams from the group will vie for the title.
The Nepali squad features newcomers Somu Bishta, Kanchan Shrestha, and Soni Pakhrin, along with returnees Roma Thapa and Sangeeta Rai. Manoj Katuwal serves as the coach for the Nepali women’s cricket team. Tanzania and Japan are new opponents for Nepal in this tournament, with Hong Kong ranked 22nd and Japan ranked 51st in the ICC rankings.
Nepal commences the tournament against Tanzania on November 29th, followed by matches against Hong Kong on November 16 and Japan on November 18.
