Kathmandu, January 27 – Nepal’s Foreign Minister, Narayan Prakash Saud, remarked that the relationship between Nepal and India is advancing smoothly in a distinctive manner. Speaking at a program commemorating the 75th Republic Day of India, Minister Saud highlighted the deep-rooted connections between the people of both countries, expressing optimism that addressing various issues through dialogue and discussions would strengthen these ties further.
Addressing the multidimensional aspects of topics like the Treaty of Peace and Friendship of 1950 and border-related matters, Minister Saud emphasized the importance of making objective and practical decisions to address the concerns raised at different stages. He acknowledged that as close friends, it is inconceivable to imagine differences on common agendas, stressing the need for training and instructions for security personnel deployed on the border to treat people in the bordering region with respect and consideration.
Minister Saud noted the cordial relationship observed during meetings with Indian leaders and citizens, highlighting the positive attitude of Indians towards Nepal and Nepalis. He expressed confidence in India’s willingness to resolve border issues in places like Susta and Kalapani through a cordial approach, possibly through the establishment of a taskforce.
Former Vice President Paramananda Jha emphasized the importance of working together to deepen Nepal-India relations at the grassroots level. Devendra Poudel, a leader from the Maoist Centre, urged both nations to collaborate in addressing common challenges faced by humanity.
CPN (UML) leader Dr. Rajan Bhattarai advocated for defining Nepal-India relations in line with the existing level of understanding and perceptions among the people. Leaders from various political parties, including Rajendra Mahato of the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party and civil society leader Dr. Sundar Mani Dixit, shared their views on enhancing Nepal-India relations for the mutual benefit of both nations.
Deputy Chief of Mission of the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, Prasanna Shrivastava, also spoke at the event, highlighting the unique relations between Nepal and India. He emphasized India’s historical assistance to Nepal during times of disasters, underscoring the shared commitment to collaboration and support between the two nations.
