Nepal Police Dispatches SSP Acharya to Hong Kong for Gold Smuggling Probe
The Nepal Police is mobilizing Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dinesh Raj Acharya from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) to Hong Kong to gather crucial information related to the smuggling of 61 kilograms of gold, which has seen the involvement of foreign nationals. In response to the international aspect of the gold smuggling case, Nepal Police has sought assistance from Interpol.
Nepal Police’s spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General, Kuber Kadayat, confirmed that SSP Acharya is set to depart for Hong Kong imminently, tasked with assessing the details of the gold smuggling operation. Approximately a month ago, the Revenue Investigation Department (RID) seized a substantial 60.716 kilograms of gold from Sinamangal in Kathmandu. Following this seizure, the CIB assumed responsibility for the investigation after the RID transferred the case files.
The involvement of Indian and Chinese citizens in the smuggling scheme has been verified, prompting Nepal Police to collaborate with Interpol by submitting a formal request for coordination.
