Nepal Sets Modest Target of 173 Runs for Netherlands
In Sunday’s match of the ICC Cricket World Cup League-2 tournament, Nepal set a modest target of 173 runs for the Netherlands to achieve victory. After losing the toss and being asked to bat first at the International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Nepal managed to score 172 runs before being bowled out in 49.3 overs.
Nepal’s batting performance saw opener Kushal Bhurtel shine with a contribution of 66 runs, followed by lower-order batsmen Karan KC and Arif Sheikh who scored 26 and 22 runs respectively. Captain Rohit Paudel added 16 runs before being dismissed.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Asif Shaikh contributed 17 runs, but apart from Bhurtel, the top order struggled to make significant impacts. At one stage, Nepal was reeling at 135 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. However, a partnership between Arif Sheikh and Karan KC added 36 crucial runs to the total.
Nepal also managed to accumulate 10 extra runs, adding to the challenges for the Netherlands in their pursuit of victory.
