Nepal Stock Exchange Ends Winning Streak; Index Dips 9.54 Points
The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) witnessed a halt to its four-day winning streak on Wednesday, closing 9.54 points lower at 2,017.97 points. The benchmark index, which had surged by 67.57 points in the preceding four sessions, experienced corrections during the day’s trading, ultimately recording a 0.47% decline.
Market data revealed a mixed performance across sectors, with 171 companies witnessing a decline in share prices, while 66 managed to advance, leaving eight unchanged. Notably, only three out of the 13 trading groups on the bourse posted gains, signaling a varied market sentiment.
Among the sectors, the Development Bank sub-index recorded the steepest decline, falling by 0.96%. Conversely, the Manufacturing & Processing group emerged as the top performer, registering a notable gain of 1.4% on the day.
In terms of trading activity, People’s Power Ltd took the lead with shares worth Rs 118.99 million changing hands, followed by Nepal Finance Ltd and Shangri-La Development Bank Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 109.43 million and Rs 79.81 million, respectively.
Market turnover remained robust, with shares worth Rs 3.7 billion traded on the secondary market through a total of 55,862 transactions, indicating continued investor participation despite the day’s downturn.
