Nepal Stock Exchange Index Dips, Market Continues Losing Streak
The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losing streak to a fourth consecutive session on Wednesday, closing down by 3.43 points at 2,006.78 points.
Despite opening on a positive note and briefly hitting an all-time high of 2,017.21 points, the benchmark index couldn’t sustain the momentum and ended the day with a 0.17% dip.
A total of 132 companies witnessed a decline in share prices, while 103 recorded gains, and 10 remained unchanged. Surya Jyoti Life Insurance Company Ltd led the day in terms of turnover with shares worth Rs 258.05 million traded, followed by Sarbottam Cement Ltd and Gurkhas Finance Ltd with turnovers of Rs 126.78 million and Rs 117.75 million, respectively.
Out of the trading groups, only three managed to post gains while the remaining 10 ended in negative territory. The Microfinance sub-index saw the highest gain, up by 1.65%, whereas the Manufacturing & Processing group experienced the biggest loss of 1.74%.
Trading activities remained active with shares worth Rs 2.53 billion traded through 52,065 transactions during the trading session.
