Nepal Suffers Defeat Against Bangladesh in U-19 World Cup
Despite an impressive five-wicket performance by Subash Bhandari, Nepal faced a defeat against Bangladesh by five wickets in the ICC Under-19 World Cup on Wednesday.
The match, part of the Super Six stage, took place at Bloemfontein, South Africa, where Bangladesh successfully chased down Nepal’s target of 170 runs in just 25.2 overs.
Bangladesh’s Ariful Islam played a crucial role in the victory with an unbeaten 59 runs off 38 deliveries, while Jishan Alam contributed 55 runs off 43 balls, including six boundaries and two sixes. Ashiqur Rahman Shibli and Ahrar Amin added 16 and 12 runs respectively.
Having won the toss and choosing to bat, Nepal faced early setbacks, losing openers Bipin Rawal and Aakash Tripathi early in the innings. Despite Bishal Bikram KC’s top score of 48 runs and a partnership with captain Dev Khanal (35), Nepal managed to post a target of 170 runs, losing all wickets in 49.5 overs.
In the bowling department, Rohanat Doullah Borson stood out for Bangladesh, claiming four Nepali wickets, while Sheikh Paevez Jibon took three wickets, finishing with figures of 3-34 in his 10-over spell.
Nepal’s hopes of reaching the U-19 World Cup semi-finals came to an end on Tuesday after India and Pakistan secured victories in their respective Super Six matches. India’s emphatic win against New Zealand and Pakistan’s close victory over Ireland meant that Nepal, with no points in the Super Six Group 1, would not advance to the next stage.
Nepal is scheduled to face India in their next U-19 World Cup match on Friday.
