Nepali Congress Issues Whip to Vote Against PM Dahal’s Confidence Motion
the Nepali Congress has issued a whip mandating its members to vote against Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s upcoming vote of confidence, slated for March 13. Ramesh Lekhak, Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party, affirmed this decision on Monday, signaling a significant shift in Nepal’s political landscape.
The directive from the Congress whip underscores a firm stance against Prime Minister Dahal’s bid to secure confidence from the House of Representatives. Members are obligated to participate in the crucial session and cast their votes in opposition to the incumbent premier.
Following the formation of a new power equation, the Congress withdrew its support for Prime Minister Dahal. Consequently, Prime Minister Dahal is compelled to seek affirmation from the House amidst the evolving political climate.
The emerging alliance now comprises CPN (UML), CPN (Maoist Centre), Rashtriya Swatantra Party, Janata Samajwadi Party, and CPN (Unified Socialist). Conversely, opposition factions rallying against the confidence motion include the Nepali Congress, Rashtriya Prajatantra Party, LSP, Rashtriya Janamorcha and other dissenting voices.
