Nepali Congress Withdraws Support from Prachanda’s Government
The Nepali Congress has announced its decision to withdraw support from the government led by CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal. This decision comes after discussions held during a meeting of the central work performance committee of the Nepali Congress Central Party Office.
Krishna Prasad Poudel, the chief secretary of the Nepali Congress Central Party Office, confirmed the decision, stating that the party will now transition to the opposition and refrain from participating in government formation and dissolution. Poudel emphasized that the Nepali Congress has retracted its vote of confidence previously extended to the government.
The move follows Dahal’s decision to abandon the Nepali Congress and form a new alliance with CPN-UML and other minor parties. In a swift response, Dahal reshuffled his cabinet, inducting new ministers from CPN-UML, Rastriya Swatantra Party, and his own Maoist Center.
With Nepali Congress withdrawing its support, Prime Minister Dahal will now face a floor test in the House of Representatives within a month to demonstrate his government’s legitimacy and majority support. The political landscape in Nepal continues to evolve rapidly, with alliances shifting and new power dynamics emerging
